A versatile producer who's lent his sound to esteemed labels such as Josh Wink's Ovum Recordings and Italo Business, Mick Finucan is something of an expert when it comes to crafting meticulous techno sounds. For his latest, he perks up once more on JGarett's Subspec label, this time courtesy of a new project, Partisan. The 'Climb the Walls' EP sees the Irish producer turn in three raucous cuts that are very much suited to the label's style. Chock full of oblique funk and incessant rhythms, each cut here is loaded with the sort of groove that ensures they'll go down a treat on the dancefloor.

Kicking off matters is the sounds of the original. An almost effortlessly catchy baseline is undoubtedly the highlight, but it's the overall production that really catches the ear here. Progressing at a subtle but notable speed, it's the sort of banging cut that lies somewhere between the house and techno camps while never resorting to cliche. Sure to be a hit with DJs from both sides of the spectrum, this one is a versatile gem that's perfect for when the dancefloor needs an injection of energy.

'Zealous' is a deep-in-the-night techno workout that's decidedly different than its predecessor. Trippy and hypnotic, it's designed to send listeners into a frenzy. Constructed around a solid loop, it's a canny DJ tool that will work work in the right atmosphere. Concluding track 'BeastFromTheEast' works around a solid, acid-laced baseline, the likes of which is infused with incessant bleeps and a bouncing aesthetic that's hard not to be enamoured by. A tale of three ultimately different but equally discerning techno cuts, 'Climb the Walls' is sure to earn a place in many a respected DJ's crate over the coming months.
